Saturday, 12:30pm

We were told there would be set backs.  Jennifer took Brittany to the ER this morning for pain.  Brittany has been admitted to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in the pediatric section.  She will stay until at least Monday.  She was resting at last report.

Jennifer was thankful to Alaska Airlines for the shorter than normal flight yesterday. It was only 39 minutes.  Erika was able to sleep some.

As expected, the girls continue to be demanding, even at home.  They need help moving and shifting in bed, getting in and out of bed, etc.  Erika is learning to maneuver her own wheel chair.  She says it's hard on the carpet.  Both girls' wounds are healing and that, in itself, brings some pain.  (Those of you who have had surgery can empathize.)  They are still very tired and not sleeping well, especially at night.

Since returning home, there has been discussion regarding the girls' discharge from the hospital and the manner it was handled.  Don and Jennifer need lots of prayers to make the right decisions for the girls' care.

Thursday, 11pm

The Bennett Family is together again!!  Don, Jennifer,  Erika, and Brittany touched down in Fairbanks around 4pm this afternoon.  There was a nice group of family friends (including one of the rescuers) to meet them.  Now the real healing for everyone involved can begin.

For these first days:  Visitors are welcome but please call first and keep the visits brief. The girls will be having various therapies at home for the time being.

We appreciate all the prayers thus far.  They are working!

Wednesday, 11pm

The news of the day is Erika and Brittany are coming home tomorrow (Thursday)!!! They will be able to go to their own home.   Friends and family are setting up a bedroom for them to share.  They will be in wheelchairs and will need 24 hour care for a long time.  They will be receiving several therapies each.  It could be a while before they go to school.

God has been so good during all of this!  We have been able to see his hand in all that has gone on and praise him for it.  Please keep praying for the whole family, for a smooth transition, for continued wisdom and patience for those surrounding all the children involved, and for continued emotional and physical healing.  God bless!

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.

Tuesday, 11pm

After a sleepless night, the girls had a full and busy day.  They got to go for a "walk", have more x-rays, physical and speech, therapy, and Erika even fit in some math work today.  There were lots of medical visitors.  Hospital staff have been busy trying to access the varying abilities of the girls, getting them ready for discharge.

Erika's doctor is very pleased with her breathing.  Her oxygen levels have increased from yesterday.

Trixie Lee and Rachel Hoffman visited the girls this evening.  They were also able to visit via "Skype" with the Bennetts in Fairbanks.  The girls were able to have a meal together with Mom, Dad, and VickiTaylor tonight also.

Planning for discharge is a positive step, but it is extremely overwhelming for Don and Jennifer.  Please pray for wisdom, patience, and sanity  for those caring for the girls.  Brittany and Erika are at a very demanding phase of healing at this moment  and need our prayers, particularly for emotional healing.

1 God is our refuge and strength,
   an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

Monday, 11pm

Erika was able to get off oxygen today!  Her words of the day are "I guess." She was able to have a bath and get dressed. Vicki Taylor did her nails in lime green with crackle.  She will be starting school (at the hospital) tomorrow.

Brittany is now able to drink water from a cup (without a spoon) for the first time.  To celebrate, the girls had some Sprite.

The girls were able to take a "walk" and got to visit with a yellow lab dog.  Their favorite evening charge nurse brought them McFlurries tonight.

Please pray for the emotional well-being of the kids.  Erika and Brittany have a long road of physical and emotional healing ahead of them.
When I thought, "My foot slips," your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.
When the cares of my heart are many, your consolation cheers my soul.
Ps 94:18-19.

Stickel Update Monday, 2:45pm

Jesse was cleared to leave the hospital this morning and was discharged about 11 AM.  Now he can head home to torture his sister. He did have bowel movements over the weekend and we are happy about that. Doctor indicates he is progressing nicely.  Last night as he and I talked about his pending departure, he said he wasn't sure he was ready to leave.  Who would be after being hanging out and being pampered with Xbox, Disney Channel, Computer games, movies and a button to call the nurses whenever he wanted to. He has started to joke around and become fiesty...so we know he is better.  Thanks for all the prayers.

Sunday, 10:15pm

What a blessing to spend the weekend in Anchorage with Erika and Brittany!

Both girls had a hard night last night.  They were lonely, scared, and wanted Mom.  We were told this is part of the normal healing from trauma, but it is very tiring for Don and Jennifer.

Erika is making steady improvements.  She was able to go onto "wall" oxygen this morning.  This allowed her to be transferred to the regular Pediatrics floor!  Her room is across from Brittany's room. Erika's new past-time is going for wheelchair rides.  She got to go outside twice this morning and to the cafeteria.  Unfortunately, they didn't have any Cheetos!

Brittany had a good day.  She was able to have a real shower and put on real clothes.  After the rough night, her day got better when she was able to access a new Facebook account (brit bennett).  She was very frustrated this morning because she had forgotten her passwords, changed them, and then couldn't remember the new ones.  She was locked out of her email and Facebook.  Thanks for being understanding.  She already has 50 friends on her new page!
