Saturday, 10pm

The day day for Brittany and Erika could be summed up as being status quo.  It was the first day of the "new normal" for all of the Bennetts (minus Brianna, who is on a Girl Scout camping trip).  There were several visitors, but no therapies today.

Jennifer was able to get away and do a little shopping.  She replaced Brittany's cell phone with hers and bought a new one for herself. (Go, Jennifer!)  Unfortunately, the woman did not transfer all the information correctly and Jennifer lost all of her contacts.  If you were (or think you were) one of her contacts, could you please text your name to Jennifer.  She'll then add you to her contact list.  Thanks.

Saturday, 10pm

Brittany got her wish!  She is home!! (although temporarily)  It appears she will be attending an inpatient rehabilitation program in Seattle beginning some time next week.  She was happy with Chinese food for dinner.  She also had a visit from a friend.

Erika had school tutoring for 2 hours today, followed by physical therapy.  It all went well.  Erika also had a visit from a friend.

And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will extol Him.

Thursday, 10pm

Definitely a day of mixed blessings! After a visit to the orthopedic surgeon,  Erika has to wear the cast on her left foot for another three weeks.  She is able to take the splint off of her right leg a lot more now, though.  She can also bear weight on the broken leg when doing transfers.  That's good news. :) She also began her tutoring today.  She was given homework. :(

Brittany was not accepted to the inpatient program we had hoped she'd go to.  That's good news in that she is getting better and it was deemed not "medically necessary" but bad news in that the insurance company believes she can receive appropriate therapy here in Fairbanks.  The good news for Brittany is she will probably be going home tomorrow.  Don and Jennifer will need to make some decisions regarding follow up care and whether to pursue some outpatient therapy out of state.

Please pray for continued healing.  Also pray for wisdom, patience, and understanding for the entire Bennett family as they will be all together again.  They are together, but things will be different and that will create some difficulties.  Also pray God will open up the doors to the next phase of treatment for the girls.

The Bennett's are still waiting on a decision from the insurance company regarding Brittany and her rehab.  Brittany still wants to go home but is slowly becoming resigned to having to go away.  She continues her stay in FMH.  On the bright side for Brittany, she got an ipad today.  She spent time with Grandma Jo figuring it out and finding and playing music.

Erika has her first tutoring session tomorrow.  She also has an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon to check on all her broken bones.  She's hoping to get the cast off of her left foot.  We'll see!!

Erika and Grandma Jo had a bonding moment today.  They had a tender conversation referencing Philipians 4:13 before Erika's shower.  Erika was able to transfer herself from her wheelchair to the shower chair by herself...YEAH!  Grandma Jo helped Erika wash up and by the end Erika said it was the best shower she ever had!  (Sorry Grandma Jo, the story sounds much better when you tell it!)

I apologize for not posting last night.  I had it all together, but then must have pressed save instead of publish.  Sorry.  I blame it on technical difficulties.  I did post it this morning.

Wow!  It has been 30 days since the accident.  The family has been experiencing a myriad of emotions during this time.  Throughout it all, it is evident that God is in control.  He is the Rock and the foundation of the Bennett family.  We praise Him for all he has done and all he will do!

Physically, Brittany had a great day.  She is still relatively pain free and able to have her broken leg in various positions.  She would really like to go home and is pleading with everyone to pretend to be her parents in order to sign her out of the hospital.  Don, Jennifer, and Brittany's doctor are still deciding the best course of rehab for Brittany.  It may be inpatient or outpatient, but most likely out of state.  Brittany is very distraught about this.  We ask that you not write about it on Facebook, as she is very emotional right now.  She does not understand why she can't go home to heal like Erika.

Erika is doing a little more each day.  Today her Granddaddy had a hard time keeping up with her and her math lessons.  (They are doing pre-Algebra in 5th grade now.)  A special friend left her some pork ribs which she enjoyed and she went to the hospital to visit with Brittany.  She did politely decline the offer of laying in her old bed!

The family asks for prayers for God's guidance and peace and comfort for Brittany.  Please continue to pray for wisdom and patience for Brittany's parents and caretakers.  Also, say a prayer for Don and JoLynn Bennett as they have spent the last month tending their grandchildren under very trying circumstances.  And please don't forget to pray for healing...for each in the Bennett and Stickel families.

Isaiah 58:11
The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong, and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail.

What a difference a day can make!!  The doctor tweaked Brittany's pain medicine the right way and she had a great day.  According to Facebook, she's ready to go home, "no pain!!!!!!! and when is does hurt,when thepary or my mom makes me do phyiscal labor,doesnt hurt that much!!! hope to go home today or worst tomorrow (heres hoping) Jennifer Bennett, MoM i want to go home!!!!! Dad same thing, but you dont have a fb!! -_-"  Her sense of humor is coming back as well.  She will be in the hospital until tomorrow at the earliest.  The family is investigating different TBI rehabilitation options for her.

Erika seemed to have a good day.  When I saw her she was playing light sabers with Donald, Brianna, Kael and Kody Knight.  Because she was at a disadvantage, we gave her "The Force".  It was great to see them playing, laughing, and moving about the house.  Erika is a very good driver!

One of Brittany's friends, Paul,  posted the following on her Facebook page.  Don and Jennifer were moved by it and wanted to share.

I thought now would be the time to update you on my friend, who got in a serious accident a month ago.
I went to visit her with a group of friends. I wasn’t sure what to expect. After all, this was my first time visiting someone in the hospital who I cared about. Nevertheless, I entered the room, and there she was. She seemed very cheerful, yet underneath that I could see the pain that she experienced since the day of the accident.
I had no idea how to comfort her other than doing what I did best when she was in my class: make her laugh. Going to visit someone in the hospital is one of those things that I don’t feel comfortable with. I mean, I loved seeing that she was her regular self, but I couldn’t help but feel for her pain. The whole time, I was thinking, she shouldn’t be in this position. I wished I could have taken her place in the accident. I felt morosed. A bittersweet moment.
However, if there was one thing I could take from this visit, was the fact that you can always find hope in anything and everywhere you go. Seeing her laugh and make funny jokes made my day. She was smiling at the world.

Lost and Found:  Roxanne has a blue, tie-dyed, zippered hoodie she picked up at the scene of the accident.  If it's yours, please contact akmrm94@yahoo.com  and we'll get it to you.  Thanks.

Erika seemed to be having a good day.  She was able to put her own shirt on and finally wore a pair of jeans (her favorite).  Don and Grandma Jo were able to take her out to evening services and then to the hospital.  I believe it's her first non-hospital outing.

Brittany continues to have a tougher time of it. She continues to complain of pain and the doctor continues to tweak the medication.  We believe the pain is being caused by the TBI and are learning all we can about the condition.  Brittany needs continued prayers for patience, coping, and healing from the TBI, in particular.

Brittany's doctor has come in twice on her days off to see her and we appreciate her help.  She has sent Jennifer home again tonight to get some rest.  The doctor did a nice job of explaining to Brittany why mom had to go home. Brittany didn't like it, but she accepted it.
